Bitcoin (BTC), the largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization, is gaining attention due to a recent drop in its prices. Crypto analyst Willy Woo described the current situation as one in which Bitcoin is going through growing pains.
The recent BTC price decline is largely influenced by interactions from large investors, popularly referred to as whales. Some of these investors are now shifting their attention to Ethereum (ETH), the world’s leading altcoin.
What is Behind BTC Flash Crash
In an X post, Willy Woo emphasized that this cycle’s Bitcoin price movement appears slow.
The analyst posted a chart that showed the increased accumulation among investors who held over $100,000 worth of BTC.
According to Willy Woo, whales who bought BTC at $10 or lower in 2011 have steadily increased their stake. These investors currently hold a large portion of the BTC circulating supply.
So far, they have achieved unrealized gains of about 10,000 times their initial investment. This means they can afford to sell gradually without urgency, as their profits are already heavy.
The slow distribution of the OG whales’ holdings created a steady supply overhang that dampened the BTC price rally.
For Bitcoin to see a bullish turnaround, new capital from new buyers must enter the market to absorb the selling pressure from the OG whales.
Willy estimated that it takes about $110,000 in new capital inflows to absorb each BTC sold by the whales.

Until the 10,000x gain investors are absorbed, the analyst noted that Bitcoin will continue going through growing pains. To lift Bitcoin’s price, new buyers must purchase enough BTC to absorb the sell orders from early investors.
Currently, the leading coin is transitioning into mainstream adoption. Bitcoin has seen increased accumulation among institutional players, including Strategy, Metaplanet, and ETF adoption.
Bitcoin Faces More Bearish Pressure
Meanwhile, another large BTC whale is rotating funds into ETH, adding to the bearish pressure in the leading coin.
According to Lookonchain, crypto wallets linked to the Bitcoin OG received 100,784 BTC, valued at $642 million, 7 years ago. Based on the current market price, the assets are worth about $11.4 billion.

Over the past 5 days, the whale deposited 22,769 BTC to Hyperliquid for sale. Subsequently, they bought 472,920 ETH via spot trading and opened a 135,265 ETH long position.
In their latest transaction, the whale closed 95,053 ETH longs for a profit of more than $33 million.
Following this, they bought 23,575 ETH spots. The investor now holds 40,212 ETH longs, with an unrealized profit of over $11 million.
Following the massive sell-off, the price of BTC plummeted by over $4,000 in just a few hours. Presently, BTC price is traded at $111,248, down 2.96% over the previous day.
ETH Lead Sentiment Charts
While BTC is experiencing a tough time, market participants are now shifting their attention to Ethereum.
The interest in ETH comes as the leading altcoin hit a new all-time high of $4,953 on August 24. This marks a key milestone as it is the first time the altcoin has hit this level since November 2021.
However, Ethereum soon faced a selloff and is now trading at $4,635, according to CoinMarketCap data. The price of ETH appears to be consolidating as it is still up 6.4% on the weekly chart.
Moreover, investor activity remained high. Over the past 24 hours, ETH trading has experienced an over 124% increase to $64 billion.
Another thing to note is that the spot ETH exchange-traded fund (ETF) market has gained momentum, unlike the BTC ETFs. On August 22, 2025, the ETH ETFs amassed inflows reaching $337.7 million.
