Metaplanet stock surged 14% on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, defying broader market trends. This came as the Nikkei 225 tumbled nearly 2% on September 19.
The rally comes as the company announced completing $1.4 Billion in fundraising for more Bitcoin purchases. Some analysts say the stock is now in an oversold zone. It has dropped nearly 70% from its 2025 peak of 1,900 JPY.
Metaplanet Stock Remains Undervalued With mNAV of 1.18
Despite the continued Bitcoin purchases, the Metaplanet stock has been under constant selling pressure. It has corrected nearly 70% from the peak of 1,900 JPY in mid-June. Metaplanet hit a low of 530 JPY on September 18.
It rebounded 14% today, climbing back above the 600 JPY mark. The share price trades 1.18 times its market net asset value (mNAV). As a result, the analysts noted that the stock appears heavily oversold.

Apart from the Japanese market, the trading activity in the US market also remains high. On Thursday, September 18, Metaplanet stock (MTPLF) recorded its highest trading volume on the US OTC market since June 9. With this, 13.36 million shares changed hands.

The stock closed below $4, with daily traded value reaching $52.64 Million. It was slightly lower than the $55.2 Million recorded on September 12. By dollar volume, Metaplanet ranked eighth among the day’s most actively traded securities on the U.S. OTC market.
Michael Saylor’s Support Could Trigger Metaplanet Stock Rally
Michael Saylor recently spoke with Metaplanet CEO Simon Gerovich and Bitcoin strategist Dylan LeClair. The conversation focused on Metaplanet’s Bitcoin strategy. Saylor expressed a bullish outlook on the Japanese company.
Amid their strong Bitcoin strategy, Saylor believes that Metaplanet will be the most valuable hotel company in the world.
“I think Metaplanet will be the most valuable hotel company in the world. I think they will be the most valuable company in Japan. And every day I get up, I have to go to work because the Metaplanet people are going to outrun me if I don’t.”
Currently, the Japanese firm holds a little over 20,100 BTC on its balance sheet. Furthermore, the company is working to achieve the target of 1% of BTC supply, i.e., 210,000 BTC, by 2027.
The company has also secured shareholder approval of an additional $3.7 billion fundraise for more BTC purchases.
Japan’s Nikkei 225 Faces Major Selloff As Bond Yield Rises
On Friday, September 19, Japan’s stock market fell 2.5%. Its domestic bond yields surged to record levels, extending their upward run. Market analysts are watching Japan’s market developments closely.
They see it as a cautionary signal for the U.S. economy. Rising concerns over deficit spending could pose similar risks if left unchecked.

A Bloomberg report showed Japan’s two-year government bond yields climbed to their highest since 2008. This mirrors the U.S. market’s move ahead of the Bank of Japan’s upcoming policy decision.
The two-year yield, closely tied to monetary policy expectations, rose 0.5 basis points to 0.885%. Speaking on the development, Kazuhiko Sano, chief strategist at Tokai Tokyo Securities, said:
“Selling may be emerging from those betting on a hawkish tone ahead of Governor Kazuo Ueda’s press conference, even though he’s expected to be cautious.”
Metaplanet stock has rallied despite the selling pressure. This suggests that investors are preferring this proxy bet amid macro uncertainty.
