The latest acquisition comes amid a volatile period for Bitcoin price. The cryptocurrency briefly hit a high of $102,000 on January 7, 2025, the highest point of the year, before retracing.

Even in the past 24 hours, Bitcoin price dropped below $89,000 but quickly rebounded due to strong institutional demand and the minting of new stablecoins to maintain support.

Microstrategy’s Bold Step to Fund the Latest Bitcoin Acquisition to Increase Their Bitcoin Reserves in Traesury

MicroStrategy funded its recent Bitcoin purchase by selling 710,425 shares between January 6 and 12. In a new SEC filing, the firm disclosed it has 6.5 billion shares available for future sale or issuance. This would allow them to produce capital while aggressively accumulating BTC.

Moreover, MicroStrategy reported a 0.32% Bitcoin yield from January 1 to January 12. This yield is reflecting the rate at which its Bitcoin holdings are growing relative to its shares.

As a matter of fact, this yield metric indicates the company’s ability to expand its cryptocurrency assets without significantly diluting shareholder value.

Did the Newly Minted Stablecoins Cusion Bitcoin’s Fall?

After Bitcoin price underwent a sell-off in mid-December 2024, from its all-time high of $108K, it dropped to a strong support level around $92K. A brief rally at the start of January 2025 briefly pushed Bitcoin above $100K again. However, those gains were quickly erased within 48-72 hours.

When writing, the said $92K support zone has been tested three times. It was tested, once in November 2024, again in December 2024, and now in January 2025.

A closer look shows that a notable trend, during the last two tests, massive fiat inflows were used to mint new stablecoins. This suggests that large institutional players are actively intervening to prevent Bitcoin prices from falling further.

For example, during the New Year rally from December 31, 2024, to January 7, 2025, over $75 Million worth of new stablecoins were minted, helping push Bitcoin price above $100K.

Now, a similar pattern occurred again when Bitcoin price has hit the $92K support zone again, with a large liquidity sweep candle indicating fresh buying pressure. This time, from January 10th onwards, a total of $24.5 Million worth of new stablecoins were minted, mirroring the New Year mints.

This indicates that institutional players are minting stablecoins to support the market. Even MicroStrategy’s recent Bitcoin acquisitions align with this trend, showing that major players are building their Bitcoin reserves.

Additionally, if stablecoins are minted at this pace, further market growth is likely. Large minting activity typically enhance market sentiment and liquidity, further driving the positive outlook.
