The Dow Jones Index has been in a relentless bull run this year. Its surge accelerated after the Federal Reserve slashed interest rates on Wednesday. However, this surge could reverse soon after it formed the highly bearish rising wedge pattern and after a major warning from Ray Dalio.
Dow Jones Index Technical Analysis Points to a Pullback
The blue-chip Dow Jones Index has rebounded after bottoming at $36,577 in April. It has entered a bull market, jumping over 26% to an all-time high of $46,142.
The index has moved above the important resistance level at $45,112, where it formed a double-top pattern earlier this year. It has remained above the 50-day 100-day Exponential Moving Averages (EMA), which is a bullish sign.
However, the main risk is that the index has formed a rising wedge pattern. The upper side links the highest levels on March 26, July 3, and Thursday. On the other hand, the lower line of this pattern links the key points since May 26.
The two lines are now about to converge, meaning that a bearish breakout may happen. If this happens, the next key support level to watch will be at $45,112, where it formed the double-top pattern.
A drop to that level will be a bullish aspect for the index as it will be a break-and-retest pattern, a common bullish continuation sign.

The other reason why the index may be on the cusp of a pullback is that it has formed a bearish divergence pattern. This divergence happens when key oscillators like the Relative Strength Index and the Percentage Price Oscillator (PPO) forms a descending channel as an asset rises.
Ray Dalio Warns on US Fiscal Situation
A potential catalyst for the Dow Jones Index pullback is the US fiscal situation, which billionaire Ray Dalio has continued to warn about.
In a speech, he said the US risked moving into a fiscal cliff if it failed to combat its runaway spending. He cited that the US would spend about $7 trillion this year and raise $5 trillion in taxes. As such, he expects the government to sell about $12 trillion in debt.
The US public debt has been in a strong uptrend in the past few decades and is now nearing the $37 trillion mark. Studies show that the situation will get worse over time, citing the Big Beautiful Bill that will add trillions to the deficit. On the positive side, Trump’s tariffs are expected to bring in $4 trillion in new taxes in the next 10 years.
A worsening fiscal situation in the US would hurt the Dow Jones Index and other assets, making it hard for the Federal Reserve to manage interest rates.
Valuation and AI Risks
Other potential risks may impact the Dow Jones. For example, most of the recent gains in the US stock market have been driven by the artificial intelligence industry that has helped to create several trillion-dollar companies.
Nvidia, a major component of the index, has become a $4 trillion company as hyperscalers like Microsoft, Google, and Amazon have continued to spend billions of dollars on data centers.
The risk, however, is that a slowdown in the sector, which some analysts call a bubble, could pop. In a recent interview, a popular analyst called AI the bigget bubble of our time and compared it with the dot-com bubble. If it pops, there is a likelihood that the Dow Jones will drop.
The other potential risk for the Dow Jones Index is its valuation. Its price-to-earnings ratio has jumped to 25, higher than a few months ago.
Summary
The Dow Jones Index has done well this year and is now sitting at its all-time high. However, its technicals and fundamentals points to a potential pullback in the near term.
