Bitcoin Gains Drive Massive Income Surge for MARA Stock
MARA Holdings posted its best quarter to date, propelled by a sharp rise in Bitcoin prices and operational expansion. The Bitcoin mining firm reported $808.2 million in net income for Q2 2025, up from a loss of $199.7 million in the same quarter last year.

The earnings beat analyst expectations of $223.7 million in revenue, with the firm bringing in $238.5 million marking a 64% year-over-year rise. Its adjusted EBITDA surged to $1.25 billion, a 1,093% jump compared to Q2 2024.
A $1.2 billion unrealized gain from Bitcoin appreciation accounted for most of the net income. Bitcoin rose 31% between April and June, closing the quarter near $118,000. MARA’s treasury benefited directly, with the company ending the period holding 49,951 BTC.
Shortly after the quarter closed, its Bitcoin reserves surpassed 50,000 BTC. “This solidifies our position as the second-largest public corporate Bitcoin holder behind MicroStrategy,” the company stated in its July 29 earnings deck.

MARA stock closed Tuesday at $16.61, down 3.2% during the session, but climbed 3.7% after hours to $17.22.
Record Revenues, Higher Efficiency Support MARA Stock Momentum
In addition to the Bitcoin-driven income, MARA’s core operations showed marked improvements.
The firm produced 2,358 BTC in Q2, up from 2,286 BTC in Q1 and 2,058 BTC in Q2 2024, despite April’s halving event. Blocks won increased to 694, up 52% from 457 a year earlier.
Its energized hashrate hit 57.4 exahashes per second (EH/s), rising 82% year-over-year and 6% quarter-over-quarter. The firm said its fleet efficiency improved to 18.3 joules per terahash (J/TH), following deployment of S21 Pro miners.
Energy costs per BTC fell to $33,700, which the firm claims is among the lowest in the sector. Daily cost per petahash dropped 24% year-over-year, extending a 10-quarter trend of declining costs.
MARA’s cash and Bitcoin holdings stood at $5.4 billion at the end of June. The firm raised an additional $950 million through convertible notes in July, boosting total liquidity to over $6 billion.
MARA Stock Tied to AI Push, Grid Expansion Plans
While mining remains core, MARA used Q2 to expand its reach into adjacent sectors.
It partnered with LG NOVA-backed PADO AI to develop AI-driven load-balancing systems for data centers. The goal is to reduce strain on grid infrastructure while powering AI workloads more efficiently.
In a separate deal, MARA joined forces with Google-backed TAE Power Solutions to build real-time, modular energy systems scalable up to gigawatt levels. First deployments are scheduled for late summer, with commercial rollout expected in early 2026.
CEO Fred Thiel said the firm is targeting 75 EH/s by year-end. He added that “our vertically integrated mining operations, large BTC treasury, budding international energy partnerships, and early AI infrastructure investments each contribute distinct and measurable value.”
Additionally, MARA expanded its partnership with Two Prime, allocating 2,000 BTC to its yield strategy. The move reflects a broader institutional shift toward active Bitcoin treasury management.
Bitcoin Yield and Market Position
MARA continues to activate around 31% of its BTC holdings, generating income through loans, trading strategies, and collateralized financing. The company’s Bitcoin yield for the year stands at 5.2%.
As of June 30, the firm had 34,401 unrestricted BTC, with the rest loaned, managed, or pledged. Its yield metric BTC per million diluted shares rose to 102 from 97 in Dec. 2024.
MARA has rebounded with momentum despite past losses, recording back-to-back profitable quarters. It now operates across four continents with 15 mining sites and claims 1.7 gigawatts of flexible compute capacity.
The second quarter capped a strong first half, with total revenues of $453 million and net income exceeding $275 million when excluding unrealized gains.
With a strengthened balance sheet, new AI and power ventures, and a Bitcoin-heavy treasury, MARA is positioning itself as more than a miner.
