The cryptocurrency markets are again popping after this week’s gains. This rise continues to heighten the need for cash, with some tech-savvy participants diving into unscrupulous means. The morning of 16th July was received with another hack, targeting the BigONE exchange.
The rising number of scams and hacks has exposed vulnerabilities in crypto. This growing risk could make restoring trust and implementing effective safeguards increasingly challenging.
BigONE Exchange Hacker Moving Funds
As per data sources from Lookonchain, BigONE exchange lost more than $27 Million from the exploitation. The hack then exchanged the funds into Bitcoin, TRON, Ethereum, and Solana.
Usually, hackers use this method of exchanging stolen funds into different cryptocurrencies to prevent tracking. This could lead to measures like freezing.
This hack attracted different reactions from key opinion leaders and crypto professionals in security, like ZachXBT. The renowned investigator made his view known by replying to the Lookonchain post.

ZachXBT expressed his remorse about the hack but did not apologize for the team. ZachXBT’s expression showed his disinterest in this investigation as it accused them of a couple of doings in the space earlier.
He alleged that BigONE had a bit of volume from undefined processes, but did not substantiate his claims. However, this offered a precursor to a potential investigation to ascertain these claims.
BigONE Responds to ZachXBT
In response to ZachXBT, BigONE exchange refuted the claims, stressing that they cooperated with authorities to handle the case. The exchange defended itself because Elliptic’s report deemed the claims by ZachXBT inaccurate.
The case involved their address being used to receive funds from scams. On that note, ZachXBT pointed out that exchanges with offshore registration needed a detailed look into them.

As the showdown between the investigator and the exchange continued, BigONE did not sit and watch. They reacted. But how?
BigONE Exchange Responds As It Issues Assurance
BigONE exchange, through their X page, released a bold statement concerning the matter. They first confirmed to their customers that all their assets were safe.
They went on to assure that they would bear full responsibility as they worked toward a system recovery. Meanwhile, they announced that withdrawals would be enabled after the security upgrades.
This was a sign of building confidence with their clients, but can this wash away ZachXBT’s claims?

ZachXBT’s claims and the surge in crypto scams suggest these issues may persist for a long. Even with regulations, outdated laws and weak enforcement make it hard to eliminate such threats. For instance, the “investment scam” claims are linked to regulations.
Assessing Crypto Security Risk Despite Regulations
That said, it remains to be known if the regulations can handle this rampant behavior among the crypto community. Crypto is ‘good’, but can it handle these shockwaves to attain the general public’s trust?
Apart from this hack, a few months ago, ByBit was also hacked by the Lazarus Group, whose origin is North Korea. This shows how exploitations are growing, thus raising the need for more investment in the security sector.
The laws being formulated daily need more backing from developers to ensure security is met. This story raises a new angle to look at crypto hacks. With this, regulations and stringent security advances could uncover the handles holding back this industry.
