Altseason has still not fully arrived. This is even after months of traders waiting for capital to rotate away from Bitcoin and into higher-risk crypto assets.
However, fresh charts now show a possible bottoming structure in TOTAL3. At the same time, Bitcoin dominance appears close to a major decision point that could define the next market phase.
Altseason: TOTAL3 Shows Early Bottom Structure
The altcoin market cap, excluding Bitcoin and Ethereum, known as TOTAL3, is trading near $663 billion on the two-week chart. Moustache noted “bottom vibes.” He pointed to a wide megaphone-style structure that has formed after months of pressure across smaller crypto assets.

The chart showed TOTAL3 moving inside a broadening formation, with price now near the lower part of the structure.
This setup often reflects volatility exhaustion, especially when repeated lower tests fail to create strong follow-through selling. The RSI is also in a downtrend wedge pattern, suggesting momentum may be approaching a compression point.
This does not confirm altseason by itself. Still, it shows that altcoins are no longer only reacting to Bitcoin weakness. A rebound from the lower boundary would strengthen the case for a bottoming phase.
At the same time, a clean breakdown below the current range would delay recovery expectations.
Altseason Index Still Says Not Yet
Meanwhile, the broader data still shows caution. The Altcoin Season Index remains around the 45–52 range, far below the 75 threshold that marks a full altseason. That means most major altcoins are still not outperforming Bitcoin over the trailing 90-day window.

The delay is already notable. It has been more than 260 days since the last confirmed altseason. That makes it one of the longest waiting periods for a broad altcoin rotation. In December 2024, the index reached 89, showing that nearly all major altcoins were outperforming Bitcoin at once.
Bitcoin still controls most capital flows, while altcoin liquidity remains selective. Instead of one large “everything pumps” phase, money has moved into smaller narratives such as AI, DePIN and real-world assets.
That keeps rotations alive, but it does not create the full market-wide altseason traders remember from 2021.
Bitcoin Dominance Controls the Rotation
At the same time, Bitcoin dominance remains the key signal. It sits near 58%. That means Bitcoin still holds a large share of the total crypto market value. An altseason usually needs dominance to fall and stay below the 55% region as capital rotates from Bitcoin into higher-beta assets.

Javon Marks pointed to a possible head-and-shoulders structure on the Bitcoin dominance chart. His view is that BTC dominance is still well-positioned for a major decline. Such a move could spark a stronger altcoin season if the pattern breaks down.
This matters since dominance has blocked rotation for most of the year. In 2021, Bitcoin dominance fell sharply from around 70% to near 38%–40% as capital flooded into altcoins.
The current market has not repeated that move. As long as dominance stays above 55%, Bitcoin keeps acting as the main destination for liquidity.
Three Signals Must Align for Altseason
Notably, the market still needs confirmation from three areas before calling a full altseason. Bitcoin dominance must break lower, ETH/BTC needs to recover, and the Altcoin Season Index must push above 75.
Ethereum is still relevant because there have been times when ETH has outperformed BTC in the past. The ratio of ETH/BTC is still underperforming its long-term average, reducing investors’ level of confidence in a major rotation.

For now, the setup is improving but incomplete. TOTAL3 shows early bottom signals, while Bitcoin dominance may be approaching a breakdown pattern.
However, the Altcoin Season Index still says the market is not there yet. A confirmed move below 55% in BTC dominance would give altcoins a much stronger case for a full rotation. It’s paired with stronger ETH/BTC and a rising index.
